DRIVEN BY HOW SURGERY SHOULD BE
When I first started performing surgery, like all surgeons, I had to traverse the learning curve; where excellence builds with experience. But, as I began working closely with medical engineers, I realised that learning curves didn't have to be an accepted part of orthopaedics.
Surgery doesn’t need to be complicated. It can be simple, predictable, precise, even graceful, with the help of innovative technologies. Those technologies didn't exist, so in 2013 I co-founded OssAbility with medical engineer Seamus Tredinnick.
OssAbility gives veterinary surgeons advanced tools and implants to simplify surgery in their orthopaedic patients. The OssAbility Stifle System is our latest product.
Based on engineering principles, our surgical guides decrease operative time and eliminate decision-making in theatre. Our porous 3D printed implants rapidly integrate with patient tissues. Surgeons who have converted to the OssAbility Stifle System like delivering repeatable results and getting out of surgery with no surprises.
Working with the University of Otago’s orthopaedic research team helps me stay on the edge of medical developments. I apply these developments as a small animal orthopaedic surgeon at VetSpecs in Christchurch New Zealand and am passionate about delivering education through Practical CPD and Zero Pain Philosophy.
